Books for America Assists Children and Adults without Advantages by ABC Distributing

Nationally known consumer and gift products catalog company ABC Distributing partners with a number of nonprofit organizations that assist children and families, and none is engaged in more important work than Books for America. The group channels donations of used and new books, recorded music, movies, and computers to Washington, D.C.-area schools and other institutions that serve people in need.

With only a small budget and staff of seven, Books for America promotes literacy by providing children with the sense of pride that comes from owning their first books. The group also donates books and learning materials to shelters and prisons to assist adults interested in improving their lives, and through its bookstore, Books for America benefits community agencies by sharing the proceeds from the sale of overflow items provided by supporters.

Recently, Books for America contributed some 10,000 novels to a local parks and recreational agency to expand adults’ literacy skills. It also gave more than 4,000 books to a Virginia correctional center and hundreds more to a local nursing home facility. A Brief Overview and History of the Walter & Connie Payton Foundation

Dedicated to serve the Chicago community in as many ways as possible, Aurora’s ABC Distributing has long been a sponsor of the Walter & Connie Payton Foundation, which provides support to underserved children and families throughout the region. Founded in 1998 by now-deceased NFL great Walter “Sweetness” Payton and his wife, Connie, the Walter & Connie Payton Foundation was formed to aggregate the Payton family’s many charitable activities in and around Chicago Since then, the Walter & Connie Payton Foundation has gone on to donate a wide range of material support and social services to underprivileged children, directly through the foundation and via such events as the Chicago Marathon.

 

Among its annual programs, the Walter & Connie Payton Foundation host a Back-to-School Supply Drive, a Holiday Giving Program, and the Kendall County “Sweetness” 5K & 8K Run/Walk, now in its seventh year. ABC Distributing has been proud to take part in these and other events.
